Team Leader – Children’s Residential Care

Salary: £29,600 per annum plus £50 per sleep-in (approximately 10 per month)

Hours: Full-time, average 40 hours per week

Shift Pattern: 2 on / 4 off including days, evenings, waking nights, weekends, bank holidays, sleep-ins and lone working

Location: Leyland

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and confident Team Leader to support the day-to-day management of children’s residential care homes for young people aged 12–18.

You will work closely with the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager to ensure high-quality care, strong leadership, and full compliance with Ofsted regulations, safeguarding legislation and best practice. The role plays a key part in maintaining and achieving Ofsted ratings of good or outstanding.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining direct care, staff supervision, safeguarding oversight and operational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in the daily running of the home
  • Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to staff on shift
  • Assist with recruitment, induction, training and performance management of staff
  • Manage shift planning, staff deployment and day-to-day supervision
  • Ensure care is delivered in a safe, inclusive, homely and child-centred environment
  • Ensure care plans, risk assessments and related documentation are accurate, up to date and professionally written
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people
  • Contribute to the assessment, implementation, review and evaluation of individual care plans
  • Support children and young people individually and in groups to develop behaviour management, emotional regulation and life skills
  • Ensure safeguarding concerns are acted upon immediately and in line with procedures
  • Attend meetings, reviews, child protection conferences and court proceedings as required
  • Maintain effective communication with families, schools, social workers and external professionals
  • Support the management of budgets, financial records, petty cash and purchasing
  • Oversee administrative tasks, record keeping and reporting
  • Ensure the home environment is well maintained, safe and welcoming, including oversight of cleaning, maintenance and grounds
  • Engage positively with the local community
  • Support staff development through coaching, feedback, auditing and training
  • Ensure staff remain up to date with legal, safeguarding and professional practice requirements
  • Work on designated projects as requested by management
  • Deputise for the Deputy Manager when required

Experience and Knowledge Required

  • Significant experience working with children or young people in a residential care setting
  • Experience supporting or supervising staff
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, child development and behaviour management
  • Good understanding of Ofsted regulations, quality standards and best practice
  • Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records, care plans and risk assessments

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma for Children and Young People (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to work towards further leadership or management qualifications if required
  • Good standard of literacy, numeracy and IT skills
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Full UK driving licence desirable
