Residential Support Worker | Children’s Residential Care

Location: Leyland
Salary: £13–£14 per hour, depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, average 40 hours per week
Casual: Casual work also available
Shift Pattern: Days, evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays, sleep-ins and lone working

The Role

We are looking for caring, committed and resilient Residential Support Workers to join children’s residential care homes in Leyland.

You will play a key role in providing a safe, supportive and homely environment for children and young people, helping them to develop their confidence, independence, social skills and life skills.

Working as part of a wider care team, you will build positive relationships with young people, support their individual care plans and ensure their physical, emotional and day-to-day needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, person-centred care within a safe, professional and homely environment.

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with children and young people while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

  • Support young people with their individual care plans, development and personal goals.

  • Work with children individually and in groups to develop confidence, social skills, positive behaviour and life skills.

  • Organise and participate in activities and outings.

  • Support young people with daily routines and encourage independence.

  • Complete key-working sessions and contribute to reviews and care planning.

  • Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, running records and other required documentation.

  • Complete household duties, including cleaning, shopping, light gardening and general upkeep of the home.

  • Carry out health and safety and fire safety checks as required.

  • Communicate effectively with families, schools, professionals and other agencies.

  • Attend meetings, reviews, conferences and other professional meetings where required.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and immediately report any concerns relating to the welfare of children and young people.

  • Support the smooth running of the home during each shift.

  • Work collaboratively with Team Leaders, Deputy Managers and Registered Managers.

  • Provide support and cover across other children’s residential homes when required.

  • Follow all relevant policies, procedures, safeguarding requirements and regulatory standards.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a care, residential, education, support or similar setting is desirable.

  • A genuine commitment to supporting children and young people.

  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships.

  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required.

  • Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.

  • Flexibility to work a varied shift pattern, including nights, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins.

  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
